Vilvoorde as If the loss of her son still not enough, get Henny Huyberechts been a bitter pill to swallow. The personal plaque for Aaron Van Eeckhout, on the banks of the canal at the place where he was killed, has since last week gone. “Probably stolen”, sigh Henny. “This is, again, very painful. I hope that the perpetrator ‘legs’ fall off.”

Aaron Van Eeckhout was killed on August 8, 2010. “He was something to go for a drink and had a friend around 3 hours home, dropped off,” says mama Henny Huyberechts. “He rode home along the canal, but he never came home.”

No burns

Aaron remained for two days missing. “Because the police found no trace, and we didn’t have quite the road once taken, which he had done. And so we have the tire tracks in the graskant found. The car is then at that place out of the water. What exactly happened, we will probably never know, but presumably he is behind the wheel asleep. Also, there are no burns found.”

Shortly afterwards became the personal commemorative plaque on the shore posted. “It came through his nieces. One of his friends had made it. His name, birth and death dates were engraved just as the text ‘In loving memory of Aaron.

Since last week the board, however, disappeared. “My younger sister, who at Caterpillar works, had noticed. In the weekends I go watch and I have it with my own eyes can determine. The SAVE-game board is still there. That is impossible to come out of the ground.”

That the board is stolen, leading in the meantime, no more doubt. “I have already contacted the Flemish Waterway. They had me a long time ago called, because there is a bicycle autobahn would come and SAVE board to the other side of the road move will be. They have me now on the heart that they are the board, not just would move without me in the situation. I have already received many reactions from people that it outrageous.”

“What’s wrong with this person?”, I have to wonder. “Stay just there. It is bad enough. I can also not imagine that the sign is in itself worth anything to sell. It is just a kind of stainless metal. I hope that the perpetrator ‘legs’ fall off, because this is pure vandalism. In the past we have place also two pictures of him posted. That is also two times disappeared. Flown out by wind and weather or even stolen, that I do not know.”

No new memorial

“It sets me to thinking, in the sense that I don’t know if I still a new memorial will go places. I love my memories of him at home where I get them every day then see the risk that they re stolen. This loss wears off. It is something that you are always with your continues to carry.”
