Denmark imported in 2019, approximately 161 million. litres of wine, which corresponds to a minor increase of three percent compared to the year 2018. Part of this is re-exported, but the reverse is purchased there is still a part of wine with our neighbors. In total, it corresponds to each one in Denmark over 18 years in the average drink 32 gallons of wine annually.
In 2019 occurred the greatest growth in imports of australian, austrian and chilean wines, with an increase of respectively 28, 19 and 17 percent compared to the year 2018. Imports from south Africa fell the most, by 17 percent compared to the year 2018.
Like in the last years topper Italy as the most popular wineland. Spain is now perched at number 2, followed by Chile and France, while south Africa now is down as the fifth most popular country here at home. Red wine continue to represent 68 percent of the wine import – with Italian red wine as the clear favorite, while the white represents 32 percent – with the republic of Chile in the lead.
Looking at solely on the value of the wines topper France, however, with 28% followed by Italy with 25%. This is largely due to the price of French wine is significantly higher than wines from f.ex. Chile, Spain and south Africa.
We also drink more port wine as in the past year has increased by 40% compared to the year 2018. While sparkling wine is decreased by 5%.
