According to the commercial broadcaster, Karolina Ashion will present a 10-minute Ukrainian language news program Mondays through Fridays for the nearly 200,000 Ukrainian immigrants who arrived in Germany in the last month.
“We want people to flee right now, who must leave their country, and who may not know English,” Malte Baumberger said, project manager of RTL’s Ukraine Update program. “So these people can learn what’s happening in their country right away and what the political situation is.”
After a long journey through Moldova and Romania, Ashion made it to Germany just a week before she was due.
She said that her male colleagues, aged between 18 and 60, can’t leave Ukraine. However, they broadcast from a bomb shelter in Kiev.
Ashion stated, “My life has changed completely.” “But, I’m Ukrainian and I want to be a voice for freedom for people. This (war) is for all those who are suffering.
RTL stated that it plans to expand their “Ukraine Update” news offering by hiring more Ukrainian journalists. You can watch the show on YouTube, N-TV and RTL online platforms.
