A new ship is making news for blocking another channel in 2022 — it’s also owned by Evergreen Marine Corp. The Ever Forward is stuck on Craighill Channel in the Chesapeake Bay.
The Coast Guard and Maryland Department of the Environment have attempted to move the container vessel of 1,095 feet, CBS Baltimore reports.
The ship was traveling from Baltimore to Norfolk, Virginia. Maryland-National Capital Region Sector Command Capt. According to CBS Baltimore, David O’Connell stated this.
O’Connell stated that investigators aren’t sure what caused the ship’s sinking, but they have been conducting interviews and gathering evidence.
According to CBS Baltimore, while the ship isn’t blocking the channel like the Ever Given did between the Red and Mediterranean Seas in Egypt, other vessels were asked to perform one-way traffic and decrease speed.
The Ever Given was almost exactly one year old when it was abandoned. According to the Associated Press, the ship of skyscraper size was stuck across the canal’s southern single lane on March 23. Its grounding halted maritime commerce worth billions of dollars per day.
With the help of the tides, a flotilla made up of tugboats was capable to lift the Ever Given off the Suez’s sandy bank. The ship’s long and painful grounding captured the attention of the entire world. More than 300 vessels sat on either side of Ever Given’s canal, awaiting their turn to sail through.
