The former Russian cop Mikhail Popkov has been convicted for having killed 56 people during a period of 16 years.

This is Popkov convicted of a total of 78 killing, since he already is in the process of serving a dom for the deaths of 22 people.
According to the judgment, is the 56 of the killings committed in a period between 1992 and 2007, and according to prosecutors had Popkov ‘a morbid urge to kill people’. He is also convicted for raping 10 of the victims.
Popkov was sentenced to life imprisonment, which was added to the life sentence he already is serving. He has also been deprived of the right to the pension he would otherwise receive as a former police officer.
The 54-year-old ex-cop had recognized the 59 killings, but it only managed investigators to prove that 56 of them have taken place. betstr.org

In some of the cases he gathered the victims up in a police car, after he had got free from work. All of the victims were picked up in and around the city of Angarsk near Irkutsk in Siberia.

With the recent ruling stamps Popkov in as the worst serial killer in Russia’s history. He surpasses both Alexander Pichushkin, who in 2007 was convicted of 48 killings, as well as Andrei Chikatilo, who committed 52 murders in the Soviet union.
