Bad news for Prime Video and MGM studios. Amazon has just announced the elimination of hundreds of jobs in these two divisions. Employees were notified this Wednesday morning via an internal email. “Our industry continues to evolve rapidly and it is important that we prioritize our investments for the long-term success of our business, while relentlessly focusing on what we know is most important to our customers,” writes Mike Hopkins at the head of these two units.
“Over the past year, we have examined nearly every aspect of our business with the goal of improving our ability to bring even more innovative movies, TV shows and live sports to our customers around the world, through a personalized and easy-to-use entertainment experience,” said the executive. “We have identified opportunities to reduce or stop investment in certain areas. (…) Following these decisions, we will eliminate several hundred positions within Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.”
This wave of layoffs is not the first. Last year, Amazon had already cut more than 25,000 jobs. These new cuts come as the e-commerce giant has just confirmed the dismissal of 500 employees at Twitch, its live video streaming platform.
