The Belgian government coalition broke up over the dispute to the UN migration Pact. The Flemish regional party N-VA left on Sunday the government because of the Francophone Prime Minister Michel insisted on traveling to the UN conference in Marrakech.

There, the migration Pact should be approved on Monday. “I think that we – speaking formally – back,” said interior Minister Jan Jambon (N-VA). “We have said that if the coalition goes to Marrakech, then without us,” added the former Deputy Prime Minister. The Flemish nationalists reject the UN-migration Pact categorically.

Prime Minister, Charles Michel, went on Sunday to the Belgian king to a transformation of the government without the Ministers of the Flemish N-announce VA. He now wants to lead instead, a minority government of his own Francophone liberals of the reform movement (Mouvement Réformateur/MR).

Unclear majorities

As Michel majorities want to see in Parliament, remained unclear. In particular, the Budget needs to be decided. In may 2019, the next parliamentary election is due in Belgium on a regular basis.

Deputy Prime Minister Didier Reynders was optimistic. The government have in Parliament is broad support for its international commitment, insured Michels MR-party friend, according to Belga.

On Saturday evening was come together, the Belgian Cabinet to a crisis meeting. There, Michel had reaffirmed, once again, to travel to Morocco.
