Current chief of staff of the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire, Bertrand Dumont has been appointed director general of the Treasury replacing Emmanuel Moulin, himself become chief of staff of the new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, according to a Bercy press release published this Friday, January 12.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance specifies that Bertrand Dumont will take office today. The General Directorate of the Treasury, attached to Bercy, “proposes and conducts economic policy at the national, European and international level”, it indicates on its website.

Emmanuel Moulin, 55, has been Director General of the Treasury since 2020. Betrand Dumont “will bring, in the management of the General Management of the Treasury, his strategic vision, his knowledge of economic issues and public finances, as well as his experience of European negotiations and international,” according to the press release.

A history graduate, Bertrand Dumont is a former student of the École Normale Supérieure and the ENA. He began his career within the General Directorate of the Treasury, before serving for two years as alternate administrator for France at the International Monetary Fund in Washington.

In 2007, he joined the cabinet of Christine Lagarde, then Minister of the Economy, as an international advisor, then was appointed in 2010 to the cabinet of Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services.

After two years at HSBC bank as director of prudential management, he became deputy chief of staff to Bruno Le Maire in May 2017. He then returned to the general management of the Treasury in 2019, as deputy general director and since 2020, he has headed Bruno Le Maire’s office.
