Gas and Water Leak in Roeselare City Center Due to Ground Shift

In the heart of Roeselare, a water and gas leak has occurred due to a ground shift beneath the road surface. Police have closed off a section of Noordstraat, a significant entry road to the city center. A group of residents on Noordstraat is now without running water.

The fire department was called to the vicinity of Noordhof in central Roeselare on Monday morning around 10 a.m. A sudden accumulation of water was noticed on Noordstraat. A water leak had formed beneath the road surface, and a gas line was also affected by the ground shift, resulting in a gas leak.
The fire department and police promptly closed off Noordstraat between Désiré Mergaertstraat and Sint-Amandsstraat. The perimeter was extended to include a portion of Kokelaarstraat. “The utility companies and emergency services are taking the necessary actions,” stated Mayor Kris Declercq (CD&V).

Residents Without Running Water

Individuals residing in the immediate vicinity of the leak are currently without running water. “These residents can obtain water from the standpipe at the corner of Kokelaarstraat and Noordstraat. However, this water is not immediately drinkable and should be boiled first.”
The Watergroep, Fluvius, and the fire department are actively engaged in repair works. Using a crane, they have excavated the road surface at the site of the leak. Police are advising individuals to avoid Noordstraat and reach their destination via an alternate route. The fire department is assisting residents within the perimeter in returning to their homes.
