GÄVLE. My training plummeted Jiri Jerabek, 59, put together, and was dead.
His heart stood still for 20 minutes while his friends, the emergency services and paramedics, fought to save his life.
“I am so thankful that I stand here today, a lottery prize is pretty weak in comparison,” he says.
About three months after the hjärtstoppet that could have cost him his life, feels Jiri Jerabek everything better. They get but he is aware of is a few painful ribs after cardiac lungräddningen and a shoulder that aches after a hjärtstartare on under the skin.
But despite the turmoil he’s been through, it is the joy that dominates. For today, he knows that only about one in ten that gets a cardiac arrest, survives.

He has also met with the emergency services and paramedics on a couple of occasions, which helped lay the puzzle and fill in the gaps.

– We have trained a lot in the past but now it is mostly for fun once a week, ” says Jiri.
When Tomas Pettersson downloaded Jiri to go and work out, he remembers how he complained that he felt tired and wilted.
– I said something about maybe it was good that he had to work out and move on, then, to be able to sleep better.

– We probably had not done that since my military service 20 years ago, but we got good help of the SOS-operator, ” says Fredrik Sundgren.
Felt like an eternity
Tomas Andersson ran to a room next to where there was a hjärtstartare. There was also a trained police officer who recently learned CPR.

– There was never any panic or thought that it would not go down the road. We were completely focused on continuing until help came, ” says Tomas Pettersson.
It took about eight minutes before the Gästrike emergency services and styrkeledaren Daniel Holmström was in place with four firefighters.
” It was nice when they came. I blew into the air and then they felt where minutes like an eternity, ” says Fredrik Sundgren.
Daniel Holmström is an instructor in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the conditions in Jiris case was optimal, as his friends continued with cpr and compressions all the time.
Jiri had no pulse
When the emergency services came in was Jiri very pale and lifeless. They took over CPR and continued with the hjärtstartare.
– Jiri was dead. His heart was flickering and he had no pulse. In such a situation it is very important that his friends done CPR as it keeps the circulation in the body, ” says Daniel Holmström

Soon came the ambulance, who is medically responsible at the site and started up their hjärtstartare.
After some further shock came Jiris heart started and he began breathing spontaneously.
He was taken to the hjärtintensiven in the hospital but because his breathing was still weak, he gained the help of a respirator to breathe. He was anesthetized also down to protect vital organs.
No one knew how it would go, if he would wake up again.

At his side at the hospital were his wife, Bitte. Together they have eight children together with Jiri.
– I’m so glad that he survived. The ones who saved Jiri is the real heroes, ” she says.
When he awoke after five days in intensive care, there were only small fragments of the memories remain.
– But just recently I remembered how I felt very tired and must lie down. It was probably when it happened, thinking he.
Jiris friends get the praise of the emergency services for they kept the peace and acted exemplary. Already after 4 to 6 minutes without CPR is damaged the brain by lack of oxygen. Thanks to the friends ‘ effort, the emergency services and the ambulance in a better position to save lives.

– I have realized that this can affect anyone. Therefore, you should think of to not go off by yourself, but always tell someone where you are, ” says Tomas Pettersson.
For the emergency services is the meetings with Jiri valuable. He gets the clapping and hugging each time he comes to visit.
” It feels great to see him in the day. There is much misery in our job but events like this give a something back, ” says Daniel Holmström.
