TV In “Geub”, from today on, Telenet Play and in the autumn on One, plays Philippe Geubels (37) a pathetic version of himself. When his wife runs away with another man, he stays behind with his overbezorgde mother, his unscrupulous manager and his slightly deranged friends. “This series is not autobiographical, eh,” laughs Philippe.
That stand-upcomedian Philippe Geubels an audience can entertain, is no secret. In the One series ‘Taboo’, he proved that there is also a good interviewer in him lies. And now dare he stick to acting. For the first time, as we roll in “Q3 animal hotel’ apart. For the new comic series “Geub”, from today on, Telenet Play, he goes in the skin of… himself.
In his comedy shows late Geubels not miss a chance to his wife to ridicule. Moegetergd by his insults she takes now in ‘Geub’ revenge: they let him sit for a 67-year-old Dutchman. “For who would be in doubt: this series is not autobiographical, eh,” laughs Philippe. “My wife is not really off, senne.”
Fiction was long a dream of Philippe. “I’ve ever attempted to make a series to write, but that was not a success. For “Geub” have I called on Jan Dircksens and Jan Reymen. They also worked already on ‘Geubels and the Belgians’, and together with Jérôme this series written. I am all the time involved in the process, but the dialogues I have with them left.”
Philippes manager Johnny, an arrogant geldwolf, is played by Jonas Geirnaert. He looks hilarious with his bald head and moustache. “We knew in the beginning not how he was supposed to look,” says Philippe. “We were first looking for a different type to that role. But then I thought: “Jonas is keigrappig, who is going to do well.’ We have the role changed a bit. Jonas is also a very pleasant man to work with, he gave a lot of input.”
