The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, stated this Wednesday regarding the departure of the president of the Unicaja Foundation, Braulio Medel -who has not yet made effective the resignation that he announced in mid-April-, that “the time of Mr. Medel is finished.”

Moreno has said that “the best thing he could do for the financial institution and for himself would be to resign”, when asked about the situation of the Foundation, the main shareholder of the fifth Spanish bank by volume of assets.

“I am not in Medel’s head, therefore I don’t know what he is going to do, but when one announces that he is leaving, I understand that he already has to leave,” said the Andalusian chief executive, who considered that this is “a matter of coherence and common sense”.

He has argued that Unicaja Banco and its Foundation are “suffering reputationally”, which “is not good for the entity”, so “this problem must be solved”, reports Efe.

He recalled that both the first vice-president of the Government, Nadia Calviño, and the governor of the Bank of Spain, Pablo Hernández de Cos, agree that “this situation has to be resolved”, so that the “only way is for Medel to abandon”, and that he does so “in a serene, sensible, even grateful way for part of the rest of the work he has done.”
