#Meto has come to sexforskningen. Power and sex is a flammable and potent mixture, as borders break and violations are rife.
Hence, a number of female sexforskere written a call on lederplads in the scientific tidssskrift ‘Archives of Sexual Behavior’, where they point out that there is a problem with sexual abuse in sexforksningsmiljøet.
Pings as Debby Herbenick, Lori Brotto, Meredith Chivers and Sari van Anders, who all have got the studies mentioned on these pages, declares that it is time to go up against the violations, that far along the road are perpetrated by men with power and status against women further down in the hierarchy.
The defines violations as unwanted sexual attention and suggestions of sexual services. These violations can happen in everything from classrooms and conferences to emails, and more informal meetings, where people in the environment mingler.
Writers who all personally experienced the abuses, recognizing that flirting and sexual interactions can occur between consenting sexforskere, but for them to see occur the violations, when there is a magtubalance:
An authority, administrator, supervisor, teacher, editor etc opposite a juniormedarbejder, a student, a writer, etc. The injured out often not to complain or to say, from – for fear that it will go beyond their academic career.
Sexforskerne behind the open letter believe that their field has a disproportionately large problem with sexual violations. This is partly due to the subject itself, partly to some of the leading frontrunners used methods that called for a great sexual openness of both researchers, assistants and participants, who still have influence.
They cite the example of Alfred Kinsey (and his team), which has given its name to the renowned Kinsey Institute at the University of Indiana, spent, and shared their own sexual experiences in the work.
Nøgenmassage and sexual acts were allegedly also not unprecedented in the sexforskning, education and therapy for a couple of decades ago, and the environment oozed of sexual undertones – and it does it so clearly still.
Here are a few examples, as the authors themselves have experienced:
(Male) professors, which attaches an on (female) students in the teaching context.Male academics, derogatory remarks about that specific female researchers ‘ merits due to their appearance and sex appeal-A fakultetsansat required that the students revealed their sexual behavior on a course.Researchers such as kissing on the female students and assistants, and the researchers which unequivocally provides attractive students and assistants sexual attention such as touching, and long glances.Researchers which promises a juniorforsker should contribute to professional advancement care against sexual services.A researcher asks his pregnant assistant about her pregnancy affects her orgasms.Students on the workshop on the sexual attitudes were encouraged to tell about their own behavior. In some of these workshops, the participants were naked, and they were encouraged to smell, taste, and touch each other.
of Course, it requires a certain degree of sexual openness to work with sexuality, acknowledge the sexforskerne, but they believe, however, that sexuality is their area of work, as not have with their personal sexuality to do.
As a parallel, they argue that one will not expect that persons who researches or works (e.g. a therapist) with aggressive behavior, must be open to aggression. And thus should man also do not take for granted that sexforskerne is open for sexual advances, offers and hints, points to the writers, who also complain that the media seksualiserer them and the framer of them as sexy sexforskere.
They have 15 suggestions on how to get the violations to the life, why some sounds as follows:
Krænkerne must keep up with to violate. You must reshape the risky zones to krænkelsesfri zones. the
# Introduce the discourse, which talks about the values and appropriate behaviour to Make the point that seksualitetsarbejde not have anything to do with people’s sexuality to make.Make sure clear guidelines and consequences in the various organisations.Put the name of the infringer.Learn more about the consent.
We took hold of the doctor Christian Graugaard, professor at Sexologisk Research centre, Aalborg University, to hear about the letter are also relevant in the Danish sexforskningskredse:
– Where there is power and hierarchies, sexual harassment, and the research community is unfortunately no exception. And one can easily imagine that it sexologiske environment is particularly exposed because it’s all the in advance is about sex. Conversely, sexforskere typically a very distanced relationship to their topic, and academic discussions about sexologisk science can be some of the most usexede in the world! Knastørt and theoretical.
– I know from colleagues abroad, to inappropriate things taking place in the sexologiske research, but I doubt, frankly, that there is more violence than in other branches of research. And in Denmark is sexologien quite small, so I think quite quickly, one would get injured, if you behaved swinish. So, I think, the hammer would fall hard and cash, says Christian Graugaard to Ekstra Bladet.
Power and lack of consent
That is far from a self-styled krammeterapeut and a tantric guru with delusions of grandeur to a sexforsknings-professor at a university – but allegedly #meto and #timesup movement relevant to all three.
It’s about intimacy, about sex, and especially about the power of. And about consent and the lack of it.
Before christmas occurred in tantric online groups severe allegations against a named former tantraleder with Danish forbindelseraf about assault and abuse. The man, who has gone under the earth, was, according to the critics behind the gruppehetz, mental and physical abuse, and crooked police detective. Guru’s support stated that self-development hurts, and that therefore there can be expected a certain degree of pain.
recently, the Danish self-styled krammeterapeut Per Brændgaard convicted of the rape, which occurred in a ‘private krammesession’.
