ROME. It’s called the Smart Chair and is the first industrial project, a nonprofit dedicated to people with disabilities in Italy: the objective is ambitious and fundamental, that is, make accessible to all a wheelchair intelligent, to be more precise, a “Gran Turismo”, the IS-GT – can change the lives of at least 100 thousand people. To carry it out, is Equality a non-profit organization founded by the lawyer and expert on nutrition Dario Dongo, a paraplegic, to support a cross-section of disabled people.

anyone can contribute . To support the project was the launch of a crowdfunding campaign that will start march 8th, and donations can be made directly from the website of the association.”Contributing to the industrial development of this product of extraordinary social impact is really important,” says Dongo. “Everyone can participate, through direct donations, fully tax-deductible for companies, institutions and professionals, 100% tax-deductible for individuals”.

An innovative chair . Ultra light and strong but particularly in technology, the chair is designed to absorb the stresses which it undergoes on uneven floors and to allow the user to raise the seat, standing still, with simplicity, so as to reduce the distance meter, which on average separates those who is sitting by who, instead, is located in the foot. “In this case – explains Dongo – this is not a revolution but a small new inspired by greater social integration and a minor crick in the neck for those who always looks upward, and who vice versa must bend or sit for an exchange vis-à-vis”. The ultimate goal is, in short, to reduce the trauma to the spinal column and to facilitate the interaction. At a price that is sustainable and then capable of breaking down that which is, often, the barrier to the more tricky: the economic one.

If social inclusion is a mirage . Only in Italy there are approximately 1.4 million disabled people in serious infra-65 year-olds and 13 million persons aged 15 years and over (up 25.5% of the resident population of the same age) suffering from functional limitations, disability and chronicity severe. Among these, 3 million have severe limitations, i.e. “the maximum degree of difficulty in at least one among the motor functions, sensory, or in the essential activities of daily life” (Istat). Among those with severe limitations, 48.9% is made up of young people (1,467 million), and 54,7% are women (1,641 million), people for whom social inclusion is a mirage.

Affordability . “Thanks to the social innovations and techniques on which we worked,” explains Dongo – the chair features a unique system of suspension passive that allow you to absorb the blows, and raise the seat, overcoming the ‘invisible line’ of those who live sitting. It also has an electric motor ultralight that can be hooked and unhooked with one hand, and is available at a lower price than the market average, thanks to the approach and no profit to a design based on the maximum simplicity of the construction, with quality materials and biocompatible, with a production entirely Made in Italy, with traceability blockchain and worldwide service with a positive experience of thirty years”.

The difference with the chairs, traditional . The manual wheelchairs that are currently available on the Italian, european and international-have no shock absorbers. The electric ones that also have them, are however impossible to carry on alzascale, lifts with measures lower than standard and the means of transport without special ramps, in addition to average costs over 5,000 euros and speeds are generally below 15 km/h. The wheelchair-manual-GT (Égalité Gran Turismo) places, therefore, really the basis of a new evolutionary step in mobility for the disabled, ensuring a greater autonomy. His wheel, electrical, with motor, and the handlebar with the controls of the accelerator and the brake disk, snaps in addition to the chair, a manual wheelchair and turns it easily into an “electric tricycle”.

“our onlus – ends Dongo – was created to observe the inequalities that plague contemporary society, and to listen and gather news first-hand on critical situations that affect the fundamental rights of individuals and workers, in Italy, in Europe and in the world”. A place to act together and ensure individual and collective rights. With concrete actions.
