In the united kingdom, the government has taken the first step towards putting an expiration date on tires.

Transportdepartementet have posted a proposal in the public consultation, which is to prohibit the use of tires that are over 10 years old. The ban will only apply to buses, minibuses and trucks.

It writes the Auto Express.

Dækgummiet can mørne and become stiff with time, but anyway, there are almost no requirements for tyre age in either the Uk or Denmark. At home, it is recommended only to switch the deck after a maximum of six-eight years, but the trailers may not have tires of more than six years fitted.

The british proposal, according to Auto Express in the wake of a number of campaigns increased to tyre safety, where the importance of tyre performance reportedly also has been investigated.

the Outcome of the investigation has not yet been published, but the secretary of state for transport Chris Grayling will in all cases like to have the proposal voted through. Facing the media, he refers to the precautionary principle, which is not to postpone the intervention because of the uncertainty.

– It is our priority to ensure that people can move around safely on our roads, and we have worked hard to understand the connection between dækalder and road safety, he said to Auto Express.

In similarity with Denmark, the british authorities have long recommended the owners of the buses to avoid the tyres over 10 years, and according to the media it was back in november 2018 recommended lastbilejere to do the same.

Both buses and trucks running for many miles, and many tires will therefore be worn down before they reach the first round birthday. It is also relatively limited, where many buses that actually run around with over 10 year old tyres, writes Auto Express.

with Only 0.06 percent of the total 136.263 buses, which have been verified since June of 2017, according to the media running around with the tires at 10 years or more.

This corresponds roughly to 82 vehicles in 21 months, or one bus every eighth day.
