“If more municipalities will introduce a ban on begging, for example, fewer come to Sweden. At the same time it would be worse for the families in Romania, which is dependent on the money, according to the Froga Stanescu who makes a living on begging in Stockholm.”
“They keep to on Södermalm in Stockholm. Froga Stanescu sitting outside of a shopping mall and begging, and her husband Nicolai Ionel trying to collect deposit cans so they get together for food and a little money to send home to your family and your children in eastern Romania.”
“They are completely sure that if tiggeriförbud introduced in more places than in Vellinge, fewer come here.”
“– It would certainly affect how many people come here, ” says Nicolai Ionel.”
“– But it would also affect how it is for families in Romania. They would get it much worse, ” says Froga Stanescu.”
“In Romania, it is not possible to make a living at all,” she explains. There are absolutely no jobs for them there, so to go to Sweden in order to scrape together the money by begging and collecting cans still give a better supply.”
“– When we collect the bills at the end of the month so there is no money to pay with if we don’t get hit, ” says Nicolai Ionel.”
“They have not heard of Vellinges the prohibition of begging or discussion on beggary in Sweden, but they tell me that they have noticed a hardening in the attitude of beggars in the last two to three years.”
” People don’t look at us anymore. They see us not, not talk to us, we are like a rock or a wall for them. And we get a lot less money now, ” says Nicolai Ionel.”
“They also feel that the police have become tougher, it happens to people begging runs in the road far out of town, they tell. They have been in Sweden for several laps, now they have been here for a couple of months.”
“Knew nothing about Sweden”
“– Before we hit the first time, we didn’t know anything at all about Sweden, or about the rules here.”
“Even if she has very little money in the mug so it is still better than at home in Romania, explains Froga Stanescu.”
“– We get maybe 100-150 dollars on the day. There we buy some food, if we can’t eat of any non-governmental organisation. The rest we will send home. But even if we get a little bit of money here so we have it still worse in Romania. We have two children at home in Romania, four and five years old. My mother takes care of them now, ” says Froga Stanescu.”
“the Dream is to find a job and earn their own money.”
“– of Course we want to work. With anything, cleaning, window cleaning or something else, ” says Nicolai Ionel.”
