“Russian cyber-pioneer and nobel Laureate dead”

“A Russian pioneer who paved the way for the revolutionary information technology, has passed away. Zhores Alferov, who received the 2000 nobel Prize in physics, was 88 years of age.”

“His epoch-making research in the 70’s led to the development of computers, cd players, cell phones and more. Alferov shared the Nobel prize with Herbert Kroemer and Jack Kilby, both active in the united states.”

“Alferov developed semiconductor heterostructures used in high – speed-and opto-electronics. He worked in st. Petersburg, where he also ended his days.”

“The scientific awards duggade over Alferov, born in 1930 in Vitebsk, Belarus, in the former Soviet union. The death notice came on Saturday via the Russian communist party; Alferov was an active politician with a seat in the state duma in the Russian parliament.”
