He collected “only” 19th place, but with panache. Guillaume de Lustrac completed the Drôme Marathon on Sunday April 23 in 3 hours 25 minutes and 24 seconds. His particuliarity ? He completed the 42.195 km running backwards. The athlete from Isère largely broke the world record in this area, which was previously held by the German Markus Jürgens (3h, 38 min and 27 seconds).

De Lustrac, 29, took on this challenge after “looking at the somewhat funny world records that could exist with (his) friend Duncan Perrillat”, French marathon champion, as he tells the 20 Minutes newspaper. A fan of ultracycling and Ironman races, De Lustrac now holds an unusual record. “It may formalize the fact that I am the king of idiots,” he laughs.
