Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel won the Tour of Belgium at the end of the last stage which went to his compatriot Fabio Jakobsen, Sunday in Brussels. Winner of the fourth stage on Saturday on a very hilly course in the Belgian Ardennes, the leader of the Alpecin formation perfectly managed his advantage of 40 seconds in the general classification on Sunday.

“I wasn’t at my peak a week ago. I was coming back from an internship, I lacked freshness. But I feel that the form is on the right track for the Tour de France”, rejoiced Van der Poel, already winner of Milan-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix this season.

His compatriot Fabio Jakobsen is not yet sure of participating in the Grande Boucle but he scored points on Sunday with a view to selection within the Soudal-Quick Step formation. The European champion, already winner of the 2nd stage on Thursday, won in the sprint at the foot of the Atomium ahead of the Belgians Jasper Philipsen and Thibau Nys.
