Frenchman Maxime Grousset won the gold medal in the 100m butterfly on Saturday in Fukuoka (Japan), his first world title.
The French won with a time of 50 sec 14/100th and obtained his third medal at these Worlds, after two bronze medals gleaned in the 50 m butterfly and 100 m freestyle.
The 24-year-old Nouméa native held on at the front of the race to resist the return of Canadian Josh Liendo and American Dare Rose.
In very good condition during these Worlds, Grousset dates to one year of the Olympic Games in Paris.
After the race, he was delighted: “good form, good confidence for next year, here we go!”.
Grousset improves at the same time his own French record, which he seized during the French Championships in Rennes in 50 sec 61/100th.
“I feel like it’s a release, it’s something I’ve always dreamed of, now I finally have it. Now I’m going to enjoy my moment,” he said.
“It’s my first, I will make sure it’s not the last,” promised Maxime Grousset
He brings to six the number of medals of the French delegation during these Worlds, with three charms to his credit, while the other three were won by the phenomenon Léon Marchand.
This title also comes on top of the bronze obtained in the 50m freestyle at the Budapest Worlds last year where he also won silver in the 100m freestyle.
