Taiwan is the first Asian country to gay marriage. The Parliament in Taipei, agreed on Friday for a corresponding law. The constitutional court of the island state had made in may 2017, a judgment in favor of same-sex marriages and the government a deadline of two years set to the appropriate law changes.
The new law provides that couples can first enter into a “permanent and exclusive Covenant,” and later, the registration of a marriage request.
Conservative politicians had tried in the past few months, to prevent the Reform. They sought to treat same-sex partnerships legally separately. The word marriage was not in their legislative proposals, however. (sep/AFP)
