Curro Segura, the Granada coach, will no longer be at AEK Athens next season as the historic Athenian club announced in a statement.

Segura’s first experience in the Greek competition is over. He arrived there a year ago to run the Ionikos, a small club. In March, Segura accepted the offer of AEK to be trained in the last stretch of the course. The team from the capital rose to fourth in the regular league standings under his guidance. He was dropped from the ‘play-off’ for the title and lost both of the games against Promitheas Ptras, fifth classified.

The coach from Granada who organized the second edition in Motril of his basketball campus, recently returned to Athens last week and met with the AEK leadership. Despite initial interest in his contract renewal, the Hellenic club -which is currently going through a severe economic crisis that makes it even more difficult for it to strengthen itself due to the FIBA sanctions – decided to end its relationship with Segura.

The coach, who spends most of his summers in Almunecar with his family, will now wait for new doors that open to him to determine his future. It seems complicated in the Endesa League, where only Basquet Girona (which wants Aito Garcés Reneses) continues without a coach. It’s likely that it is time to repack.
