Javier Aureliano Garcia, president of the Provincial Council and vice-president of the Commission of Provincial Councils, Councils and Councils of FEMP, participated in the latest meeting of the body, which was held on La Palma. He has asked for more resources to support the governments intermediaries.

Garcia presented Mariano Hernandez Zapata the support of the Island Council of La Palma to Garcia. He appreciated the “excellent management” of the catastrophe and a model of co-governance that should be replicated in all territories of the country.

The vice-president of the Commission also stressed that the organization’s objective is to address “issues that continue to improve the quality of living of residents in the provinces.”

He said that 16% of the budgets for each Provincial Council and 1,800 million euros were allocated to Social Services. However, they are not his responsibility. We need these intermediate governments to ensure that the basic services are available to the population to help them settle and provide assistance to those most in need. Therefore, we will approach the Next Generation funds again to see if we can manage them and to discuss the possibility of collaborating with the rest. He stated that we need acceleration to ensure it arrives sooner, via the autonomous communities.

Garcia also stressed the importance of institutional collaboration and support for municipalism, stating that “we all agree on what we call the role of intermediaries governments”.
