After the discovery of a dismembered body in a busy Brooklyn street, an 83-year old convicted killer was arrested Thursday and charged with murder.

“Last Thursday, Harvey Marcelin was charged by my office with concealing the severed head and body of a woman in her house and disposing of the victim’s torso on the street,” Eric Gonzalez, Brooklyn District Attorney, tweeted.

“Today Harvey Marcelin was indicted by the grand jury for murder. My office will continue to pursue justice vigorously.” Gonzalez stated that the facts in this horrendous case are disturbing and heartbreaking.

The body of the unidentified woman, which was missing her head and limbs was found in a bag in a shopping cart in Brooklyn when a passerby discovered it March 3 NBC New York.

Court records indicate that Marcelin was taken into custody the following day and charged with concealment of a human body.

The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner stated in an email that “The cause of death and the manner of death are still under investigation.”

According to the NYPD, police are investigating whether the severed leg that was found in Brooklyn a few days later belonged by the same victim.

According to court records, Harvey Marcelin was sentenced in 1963 to 20 years imprisonment for murder.

Marcelin was pardoned in 1984.

According to court documents, Marcelin was sent back to prison in 1986 for a six-year to 12-year sentence for a separate conviction of manslaughter.

Marcelin was eligible for parole in 1991. He was granted the first parole in 2019.

Alison Stocking (Marcellin’s lawyer) did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
