The crisis of the Covid-19 changed many of the programs of the candidates in the local elections. The electoral alliances as well. In Paris, Anne Hidalgo (PS) and David Belliard (EELV) come to unveil Tuesday morning their common agenda. Entitled “Manifesto for Paris”, the text is a sort of fusion between “Paris in common”, a program of the mayor’s socialist past-and the “Ecology for Paris”, the commitments of the candidate and ecologist. All reread it in the light of the teachings of the outbreak of coronavirus.
Proposal flagship of the alliance between Anne Hidalgo and the ecologists : limit the speed in all of Paris at 30 km/h. Only the main roads like the Champs-Élysées, the boulevard Sebastopol or the boulevards of the Marshals would be the exceptions, and the speed would remain at 50 km/h. The lower speed would reduce the air and noise pollution, argues the text.
Redevelopment of the device and the fight against the auto
The beltway is no exception. Anne Hidalgo wants to lower the speed from 70 to 50 km/h. It had already been lowered from 80 km/h to 70 km/h in 2014. “We will transform the two-fold four-lane ring road into a urban boulevard appeased : we start by creating a dedicated lane for transportation-shared shuttles, buses, taxis, carpools) to gradually reduce the number of traffic lanes, giving more space to nature, and to give the possibility to cross on foot or bike, is manifest. The goal is clear : to clear gradually this “border of another age”.
The manifesto intends to continue the policy of reduction of the motor set in place by the mayor as socialist. “To fight against all the pollution is a public health issue. This is why we will continue to reduce the place of cars in our city”, says the manifesto. In this respect, the “no diesel vehicle will be available in Paris in 2024” promises Anne Hidalgo, and “half of the parking spaces will be transformed in 5 years, in particular to enlarge the sidewalks.” The piétonnisation should also be beautiful. Anne Hidalgo and David Belliard presented in more detail in a videoconference at noon on the “Manifesto for Paris”. The opportunity to develop their alternative proposals for the youth, health, employment and the preparation of the city for future crises.
