“A winter games in Sweden would not cost anything to the taxpayer, according to the Swedish olympic committee (SOK).”

“But the risk of the event becoming more expensive than planned is very large according to researchers – which also did not see any problems with it.”

“– It must cost if you want people to remember it as a celebration, ” says Tommy Andersson, professor in turistekonomi at Gothenburg university.”

“Stockholm is one of the three final candidates to host the winter OLYMPICS in 2026.”

“Tommy Andersson, professor in turistekonomi at Gothenburg university, is sympathetic to the winter OLYMPICS in Sweden. But he does not believe that the Swedish olympic committee’s budget will hold.”

“He points out that the winter OLYMPICS between 1960 and 2010, the average cost two or three times more than what you budgeted for.”

“the OLYMPIC games in Sochi in 2014 was more than four times more expensive than planned.”

“I am absolute to arrange an OLYMPICS in Sweden, but I think it will be very difficult with the frugal budget, they have added and use to get the people’s support,” he says.”

“– Now you go out with a new way of thinking that the games should be more frugal, but it is perhaps easier said than done. Of course you have to have the venues and prepared the facilities for it to be a good event.”

“The planned financial envelope for implementation for the OLYMPICS 2026 in Sweden is sek 13 billion, which is significantly smaller than the previous olympic winter games.”

“According to a compilation made by the american think tank the Council on foreign relations low, for example, the budget of the winter OLYMPIC games in Vancoucer 2010 at 2 billion dollars, with a final cost of 7.6 billion dollars. The Sochi OLYMPICS had a budget of 10.3 billion u.s. dollars, with a final cost that was several times more expensive than budgeted for.”

“One argument that is often used to point to the positive sides with arranging an OLYMPICS is that it can increase tourism to the country even after the games ended. But it is not something you can count with, according to Tommy Andersson, which takes the OLYMPICS in Barcelona 1992 as an example.”

” the Research does not support this argument clearly. When I look at the budget for Stockholm, I note that they think that it is ready in 2026, but it is not if you want to increase tourism. The reason it was so well in Barcelona is that they took very much after the OLYMPIC games and took advantage of the opportunities that were available. They worked up the market afterwards. When I look at the budget for the OLYMPIC games in Stockholm, I see nothing about this and seems to hope that it shall be so of itself. There are opportunities, but you have to work for them, ” says Tommy Andersson.”

“According to the plan, Agenda 2020, the IOC, the International olympic committee, postpone to a contribution of around nine billion.”

” Grant is changing the conditions, but I still think that it is not enough. A lot of money to come from sponsors and I think that one should start working with the lawyers to tie up all the good wills cheering on the now. Now there are many who say, ”

“Despite the cost of a winter OLYMPICS, there are, according to Tommy Andersson many benefits to arranging the olympic games in Sweden.”

” I think it’s a bit boring that you have to try to convince people that it doesn’t cost anything to make them positively inclined towards this. I see the winter OLYMPICS as a celebration of both sports fans and many others. In particular arrangörsstäderna must see it as that they invite the world to a party, it need not be free of charge but is entirely natural that it costs. On the plus side, a lot, having fun, spreading its image across the world, and perhaps other effects in the form of more tourists and more people who play sports in the future, ” says Tommy Andersson.”

“in May–June: the IOC evaluates the candidates, which in turn will give answers and justify their applications.”

“June 24: OLYMPIC values for 2026 are presented in Lausanne, Switzerland.”
