In only a few places in Munich and its surroundings is lived Punk. The “free space” in Dachau is an exception. Impressions of a place where things are still wild.

By Julia Putzger, Dachau

The hair is gelled to spikes, black Jeans and a torn leather jacket with studs covered. The floor vibrates and shakes, the amount that it is sent sprawling, jumped, and sweat stands on the forehead. On the small stage of a drummer, electric guitarist and singer really get stuck in, they scream, croak, and roar. It is loud. Hardcore punk, this is music that rarely finds its way into Nightclubs and average Bars and listen to only a few small retreats.

The “free space” in Dachau is one of those times. Here subculture is lived, an important anchor for many local Bands. During the concert, “the Hinterland Calling” played recently, five groups from the district. There they showed that the musical underground in Dachau has a lot of it, told but also of the difficult overall situation: There is not in the Metropolitan area of Munich plenty of opportunities for the youth to creatively experiment with the harm on the duration of the creative scene.

The Problem starts in the rehearsal rooms and ends at the event locations. “The Situation in the greater Munich area is maxed out. The few rehearsal spaces, there is still that are expensive, that’s why young people have no opportunity to unfold and pull away”, tell Nic and Matze from the Band’s Sabot Noir, which has just fueled the mood. The two come from Petershausen to know the free space already for a long time, are grown here. “I have taken over the heritage of my brothers,” says Matze, take care of this evening and otherwise on the diverse programme of free space is involved.

in addition to Punk, Reggae or Dub concerts are also monthly Meetings to different, sometimes political issues. “Clearly, the people look wild, but the free space is a place that everyone should feel,” explain the two musicians. Tobias Schneider, Department of culture head to the town of Dachau, and estimates the free space. In the eleven years of its existence, the program was altered by changing organizational teams. Schneider praises the constant movement. It what was the matter.

That the concept works, also shows the awareness of the free space far beyond the city limits. The Situation is better here than in Munich, where the subculture, more and more will be pushed, told Nic. “The town of Dachau is, therefore, a culturally vibrant city that many Munich travel out of here.” The cutter confirmed. During his own Visit in the space he had always performed a nationwide audience. The places in Munich, for a city of millions, far too few. Fritz, guitarist and singer of Professor Grabowski, it looks the same: “The free space is the last Punk stronghold. Here it is actually free and can give you want to properly rock out”.

nearly 40 years Ago, you met the guy with wild hair and funky clothes in the countryside, in the small Ampermoching, a District of Hebertshausen. The Gasthof “Zur Post” was in the eighties, the scene meeting, the Munich-based subculture, great Bands and musicians found their way there, such as, for example, The Exploited, or Kevin Coyne, not always to the delight of local residents.

“But let’s be honest, who is still afraid of people with green hair? Punk is dead,” says Johnny, front man of Monomania. As a protest movement, which it once was, Punk is hardly more important. Nevertheless, the Trio makes more with his music, according to the Motto: “If there is nothing, then do it yourself.” As you stand as the last Band in the “Hinterland Calling” on the stage, singing your frustration and your anger from the soul, from being a Nobody in the middle of Nowhere.

“make music because you are so happy, it was never my thing,” admits Johnny. Nevertheless, they wanted to be not a “Shredder Band,” he says, but with their furious music show their skills and others get carried away and Do animate. Because, as Johnny: “music can get people to Think about, but those who want to change society what it must do in a different way.”

Own songs and also write the other four Bands performing that evening. Fritz was rooting for the texts of Professor Grabowski in a box with old love letters written by his band partner, Hansi, matzo has the best ideas for Sabot Noir on the S-Bahn. Sometimes it comes to political issues, however, often quite personal experiences, which will process the Bands with their Songs. Although the Song “I Wanna Be Famous” by Professor Grabowski the contrary, the musicians small goals. Another Album to record, publish a record or, as in the case of Gandabherunda, the first appearance of masters.

The Duo from the dirt road, is already practicing for four years in the basement of the parents of guitarist Eugene. They were soul mates and with their music, which is a mixture of Rock ‘n’ Roll and electro beats, you want to process, especially their feelings and impressions of their environment, a “self-therapy” they call it. In the construction of the two seem nervous: cable to cable needs to be untangled and plugged in, sound check, the system is too quiet, sometimes too loud.

But the audience is patient, anxiety it must have no. The wild Punks with their studded leather jackets and the high-gelled hair go, meanwhile, at the Bar and eat a Portion of pasta with tomato sauce, the cooked room of the Team.

With the appearance of Gandabherunda, the audience is mixed. In addition to the harsh Punks of relaxed types, the seem with the sunglasses in the hair and loose Shirts to come directly from the beach, and women with colorful wool socks. “This evening is not a night like any other. Every Band today has people brought in, who are not otherwise likely to be more,” says Matze of Sabot Noir. Only a few Bands that know, for example, from the past or a sample room to share, there was actually contact.

Also, the Bands do not lead back to the lack of possibilities in the scene: There is simply not enough space and too rarely the opportunity to play a concert. To make solely within the domestic scene, a name that was hard enough, let alone outside of it.

“As a cover band you have to be invited, probably, easier, to an event in a Bar. Then the fate of the wedding band, worthy in their performances, but not their own music in the making comes to a but fast,” Matthias, which stands for Lost Rose as a singer and bass player on stage, to bear in mind. The Band started with covers of Guns N’Roses Songs – hence the band name – but developed rapidly and today is your very own thing. Five listeners for each of the three musicians are about as good as 5000, it comes to Play.

subculture

The term “subculture” actually comes from sociology. It was first used for ethnic minorities in the United States, and later also for social classes. In common parlance he is referred to today is a scene of Creative people that operates in a non – conformist in the commercial and social expectations-and often in conscious contrast. The subculture, therefore, has a large intersection with youth culture. A vibrant subculture is today often seen as an indicator for the liberality and openness of a city. Berlin has benefitted greatly from it, while in Munich, although blessed with high-culture, some as a rather boring, is perceived. gsl

“in Front of 14, 15 years ago, when we founded the Band, because we wanted to be famous. But in the meantime, we lead a very normal life with a house, family and child,” says Matthias. The rock band is to the outside like a hard-ass, it is enjoyed but is actually very friendly time, also show their Band rehearsals in the family home of drummer Beanie. “We meet mostly on Sundays in the early afternoon and then we samples, calls to Beanies mother us coffee and cake.”

acts Like the nice afternoon chat, the stage, first at the appearance of Professor Grabowski. Always, the Duo has, in fact, a floor lamp, in big black letters in your band’s name emblazoned. Living room mood on the Performance of Fritz and Hansi but guaranteed: Fritz notes that the two of them are with your “Super Punk’n’Roll” on this night, the band that bothers him, but more: “do whatever you want, I dance up here!” This leaves the audience not to be told twice.
