Denderleeuw On social media is displeased responded to a bilingual letter that the Catholic Centrumschool Denderleeuw (KCD) both in the Dutch as in the French fielded to parents to inform about the strike. Ships of Education Jan De Nul (CD&V) is not happy.

In the letter, parents are asked to help their child at home because the lessons are not to continue by the national strike in the education. That part of the letter in French is drawn up, punch some people against the chest. Also Flemish Interest is not to speak. “Different parents have me contacted because of the bilingual letter,” said city council member Kristof Slagmulder. “The grant of facilities to non-Dutch speaking parents only leads to more of the French of our community and promotes by no means the integration and co-existence.”

According to director Ann Van Durme was the letter only for French-speaking parents intended. “We had already the (English-Speaking) letter from the union was drawn up, personalized and on Monday, given to all parents,” she says. “That letter, however, was linguistic not easily prepared. Therefore, we have yesterday a letter to give only for French-speaking parents, with on the back also a partial translation in the French.”

Flemish Interest calls for the municipality to engage in dialogue with the school and also refers to the Flemish Manifesto to the French in the municipality. Former mayor Jan Animal of Sustainable Flemish Denderleeuw says even an official complaint to submit it to the competent authorities.

“I am as alderman of Education is also not happy with the letter,” said Jan De Nul (CD&V). “A school has a legal right to be in another language to communicate to specific target groups that the language is not powerful, but this was a national announced strike. I regret that the management not previously communicated with the parents and I find the letter also unfortunate because we, as a municipality a lot of efforts to do to the English as the language of instruction to use. We will also have a point to make on the next directieoverleg with the schools,” concludes The Zero.
