illustrative of the conflict that is going on between UEFA and FIFA about the power and influence in international football. I may well just as well add that it also largely is about money.
In the picture we see a sign and, it seems, a somewhat excited FIFA president Gianni Infantino send a volley off against a somewhat calmer UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.
was caught by the photographer in august in Tallinn, Estonia, where Real Madrig met Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final. But why this excitement?
the Answer is simple. Because Ceferin with the UEFA in the back has blocked for the FIFA president’s plans to create a new WORLD cup and a new worldwide Nations Legaue.
it was Gianni Infantinos intention that the plans should have been carried out at FIFA’s board meeting in Moscow in June last year in connection with the football WORLD cup. But here rejected Ceferin at all to discuss the topic. The reasoning was that he was not sufficiently informed about the content.
this has been the situation ever since. Although I have covered UEFA and FIFA for a number of years, and, together with colleagues from a number of european countries, I was in the previous week at UEFA’s congress in Rome. Here was the Infantino also present, but the football’s right-hand man deigned not to answer the press’s questions about its plans.

It is not the first time that Infantino and Ceferin facing their backs to each other.
what we think we know: The japanese Soft Bank, part of which is equipped with money from Saudi Arabia, has offered to throw $ 25 billion in a new club WORLD cup with 24 teams and a new nationsturnering. Gianni Infantino had to be prepared to let investors own up to 49 percent of the two tournaments, which will be selling out of the soccer ball.
I have written in the past, and each time, I get subsequent of the sources in the FIFA to know that my information is not completely correct. When I ask, what then is correct, the answer is silence. My foreign colleagues are experiencing the exact same thing.
is that UEFA’s Aleksander Ceferin by significantly more than he expresses. His resistance can be seen more as a defence of the UEFA Champions League and other european tournaments. In the global context UEFA is the fat cat. It is here in Europe the vast majority of football’s money available, and why risking to put some of it over the track?
Ceferin has had great success with his tactics. This week he got the european clubs and the european ligaers signature on a statement that in no uncertain terms told the FIFA president, that his proposal for the two new tournaments is unacceptable. Furthermore, the potential new tournaments at the earliest can be current after 2024. It is something of a slap in the face to the football supremo.
was in 2016, elected as the FIFA president, because he promised the soccer ball more money and more tournaments. The promise comes he not to meet before the FIFA congress in June in Paris. He is certainly sure of re-election – because no opposition has been on the pitch – but he has largely lost credibility. It may well be that he even feels like the world’s most fodboldleder, but it is UEFA, which runs with the blot.
