Hana was in Anthony Minghellas the melodrama “The English Patient”, for which it won at the Berlinale in 1996, the Silver bear – and then an Oscar. Seven Times was Juliette Binoche on the Festival to be a guest, for the first Time in 1984 with Godard’s “Je vous salue, Marie”, later with “The lovers of Pont-Neuf” and “Chocolat”. In Isabel coixet’s opening film of 2015, “Nobody Wants the Night” played on a polar rice at the end of 100 years ago. The Film fell through, but Binoche was celebrated. This year she heads the competition Jury and is, together with five colleagues to distribute under 17 Kanditen bears and prices.
All of the members of the Jury are by the way closely connected with the recent history of the Berlinale. So the Theater – and film actress Sandra Hüller least, especially with their main role in Maren Ade’s father-daughter dramedy “Toni Erdmann” Furore and a number of awards won, but at the Berlinale, she was honoured in 2006 for her role in “Requiem”: A tübingen student is accused of being possessed by the devil. Last year, Hüller in the forklift melodrama was to see “In the corridors”, a Berlinale audience favorite in 2018. The Chilean Director Sebastián Lelio made in 2013, with “Gloria” for a showstopper; in 2017 he won for “A fantastic woman” the screenplay prize and the Teddy Award. The British producer Trudie Styler in 1995 its Berlinale debut with the documentary “Moving the Mountain”; in 2017, her directorial debut, “Freak Show” (Generation). This year is represented by their production company, Maven Pictures with the neo-Nazi Film “Skin” (Panorama) and the children’s film “Driveways”.

The film-in-chief of the New York’s MoMA, Rajendra Roy, knows the Berlinale, especially as a member of the selection Committee in the years 2004 to 2008. At MoMA, he co-responsible for major exhibitions, including Pedro Almodóvar, Wim Wenders and Berlin school. The MoMA was a Partner in some of the Retrospective.
