Biocoop, the leading network of stores specializing in the sale of organic products in France, has had a new president since Friday, Tanguy Le Gall, and an interim general manager for 6 months, Patrick Ribot, the distributor announced in a press release on Monday.
Tanguy Le Gall, graduated from Paris Dauphine in master’s degree in telecoms and media management in 1991, joined Biocoop in 2016 “as part of the takeover of a group of four stores located in the Toulouse area”, explains the company of which he has been a director since 2019. He succeeds Pierrick De Ronne who “made the decision to resign from the presidency of the group” after four years at its head, but remains a director, specifies Biocoop in its press release.
In addition, the Board of Directors has appointed Patrick Ribot, Chief Financial and Internal Control Officer since November 2020, “as interim Chief Executive Officer for a period of 6 months”. At the end of August, the group of independents Système U, the fourth player in French food retailing, announced the appointment “effective at the start of 2024” of the executive general manager of Biocoop Sylvain Ferry, formerly of Carrefour, as deputy general manager. Biocoop, the first network specializing in the distribution of products from organic farming in France, claims “more than 740 stores and 3,500 partner farms”.
The media specializing in distribution LSA, which revealed these appointments on Friday, recalled that Biocoop achieved sales of 1.4 billion euros in 2022, down 6% “compared to -12% for brands specializing in organic “. After ten years of double-digit growth, the French organic market has been hit by inflation and sales have declined significantly in 2022.
