A thin border between the audience and the co-creator

Ulrika Stahre see three exhibitions at Wanås

In the north of Skåne has Wanås art has established itself long ago as a cultural destination and in recent years has more and more begun to tie culture and nature closer to each other. Organic farming and sales, educational projects that link the site closer to your visitors. And an ever-growing tourist activities.

The characteristics of this year’s exhibitions are the relatively numerous and interactive projects that are ongoing parts of the summer: Barnbokspremiär; Stickaktivism; Still untitled. The latter consists of several workshops in collaboration with Xavier Le Roy, Scarlet Yo, where the participants should embody and convey the sculpture.

To be sculpture, and to be human is flowing together, which can be said also if one of the new works in the park: a pyramid, signed Poul Gernes (1925-1996). Designed already in 1967, it has now been erected in the outskirts of the park near the castle. A place for socializing, thus a place to attend myself.

the Participation binds together the works of the Foundation, even if they have done it in the past – it is almost inevitable, only to put the own body in motion in the park is to participate – this is more accentuated in the year. Katarina löfström on his much talked about Open Source (Cinemascope), in our hands, like the screen it should recall, reflects its surroundings, creating analog and fleeting film in real-time. The small paljetterna moves gently in the wind, phrases to catch up with the beech forest, and creates a moving picture of thousands of small pixellika mirror images. The work is changing, depending on where one stands, and, above all, when.

More works by Katarina Löfström is also displayed in the gallery, movies which unfortunately did not really come to its right. They require time and operate in a completely different way than the work in the park. Poetic works such as playing hide and seek with the viewer – but how much any more grateful for a brisk audience is not Chiharu Shiotas trådspunna house, a drawing in three dimensions of red yarn. The house mimics the barn it is in, effective, and energetically. In the park on actual items managed worse, this is the mainstream elegance dimmed and replaced by something that is hard to grasp. A clearer story, possibly, because there is a person in fact that seems to sit firmly in an umbilical cord. A little bit of a picture of dependence.

Artist Richard Johansson’s Folkkonstmuseum, unfortunately, will not be in place throughout the season, without leaving the place at midsummer. Collected items from the including the nearby hembygdsgårdarna and a job generally binds the Wanås even clearer both to a local community and to the creation as is everyone’s. The border between the audience and the co-creator has never been thinner at the Wanås than this year.
