25. november 1990.

One of the absolute best attackers in the history of Denmark was facing his last battle, since Vejle Boldklub met B1913 in the second of two qualifiers-matches for a place in the new League.

the 33-year-old Preben Elkjaer was, however, no completely vejlenserne, who had won the first showdown. On the contrary. In the extended duration as a Year of yellow for the second time, and it meant a badebillet from the match referee.

The then-30-year-old up-and-coming Peter Mikkelsen, who would later be named the world’s best judge two times.

According to the event reports from then let Preben Elkjær the frustration go out over Peter Mikkelsen, and the protagonist may well remember the episode from his last match.

– Yes, of course I can remember it. It was annoying.

– Were you unhappy with the expulsion?

– It is always dissatisfied with.

– And you did not agree?

– It is the never. Have you ever seen one that was agreed to in a deportation, says the grinning from Preben Elkjaer, since the Extra Blade catches him on the phone.

– I just tried to convince him that it was wrong. But I can’t remember what I said.

Elkjaer got the second yellow card for a hard tackle on B1913’s Ole Juel, and it was Peter Mikkelsen to pull out the red card forward, although he probably was well aware that it was Said last fight.

– Subsequently, I think, perhaps, it was very good, he says sarcastically about to be expelled in his last fight.

– But it is clear that the day was a very important fight, so it was not very smart to be thrown out. It was a stupid time and the wrong match to be thrown out.

Vejle did the inserts in spite of the expulsion and moved up in its best variety, and the former landsholdskæmpe was not cut by teammates. But there was another reason.

– I did not, no. I went into the locker room and dressed and then I drove home. It was my last game after all. But it was not Peter mikkelsen’s sake, I just say.

Preben Elkjaer believe that he had Peter Mikkelsen as the judge a few times in addition to the fateful november day in 1990, but he did not know him personally.

He was annoyed, however, over the past topdommers untimely death.

– He has been a great representative for Danish football, when we have a topdommer to judge the really big matches. There is a long way to get the options. There you have to really be sharp, and he has had a fantastic career. So it is sad. It is very sad, says Preben Elkjaer.

Peter Mikkelsen died on Wednesday after prolonged illness – 58 years old.
