After an appeal from party leader Gauland, the AfD calls for no fixed timetable for the withdrawal of Germany from the EU. A radical call for a Reform of the EU, however, remains valid.
It was the big discussion before the European Convention: To give the AfD a fixed date for the German to exit the EU or not?
The program Commission had written in its slogan: Should the EU until the end of the next term, so until 2024, not in the sense of the AfD reform, Germany should escape.
Gauland urges realism
Gauland demanded that the party more realism.
At the party Congress in Riesa, the AfD-tip was against such a schedule. Party leader Alexander Gauland language with a view to the Reform of the EU from a Drilling through thick boards, the “not go from today to tomorrow”. He urged more realism and positioned himself against the so-called Dexit: “we Embark on a path of uncertainties! I want to warn”. For his speech Gauland Standing ovation received by the delegates.
“This self-binding is dangerous,”
EU top candidate Jörg Meuthen finally presented a compromise proposal. The definition of of five years should be deleted from the program. “This self-binding is dangerous,” said Meuthen. The AfD would then be bound to ask in five years, the Dexit.
Instead, Meuthen suggested, the softer the formulation, the EU should “reform in a reasonable period of time”. In return, Meuthen agreed to call the Dexit as “necessary”, it should fail the EU-the Reform of the AfD.
