Cycling future was hanging by a thread. Finally found Jan Bakelants (32) is housed at Team Sunweb. After a year in which he mainly had to recover from a heavy crash in the Tour of Lombardy 2017, Bakelants in 2019 again driver call.
What happens: when a fall in the Tour of Lombardy 2017 broke Jan Bakelants seven ribs and two vertebrae. Bakelants was weeks to his bed-ridden, but made on march 24, 2018, nevertheless his comeback in the Classic Loire Atlantique. Bakelants rode one race in march, koerste eight days in april, five days in June, two in July and, in August then again more or less driver. He rode the rounds of Poland and Germany, did Quebec and Montreal and then another two races in Belgium.
Resentment towards AG2R
Bakelants had hoped to participate in the Vuelta, but in August, saw his former AG2R-team off of that plan. “Almost was for me a mission impossible to a new team,” said Bakelants. The resentment about how his ex-employer was treated is palpable, but Bakelants keeps the lips firmly together. “This is not the fight that I was in the press.”
