Sawyer is best known as the lead singer, guitarist, and percussionist in the countryrockbandet Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show.

Sawyer wasn’t the frontman, but he was still the band’s most famous member – because of its characteristic style with a cowboy hat and eye-patch. The patch he got after losing one eye in a car accident.
