Mini is working on a Renault to do the same, and now Opel will also be with.

the Goal, as the three automakers share, is to build a small electric car, that is to pay the and practical enough to appeal widely. The Opel is that the little Corsa-model, that after 36 years of faithful service with petrol and diesel engines need to be converted to a fully electric car.

the Car, with Opel’s own words will be ‘completely new’ will already be ready for launch in the first half of 2019. It writes the German automaker in a press release.

Neither price, range or performance is yet published, but according to Opel’s director, Michael Lohscheller, the price will be competitive enough to give more opportunity to run the electric car.

– The new Corsa will make electric mobility a possibility for many new customers. It will be an electric car for the common people, he says in the press release.

Back in november, it emerged that Opel’s French owner, the PSA group, will electrify the entire brand’s range within a foreseeable number of years. All the cars will not be available as electric cars right away, but as in any case as either mild hybrid or pluginhybrider.

It also means that Opel expects to send eight new models on the street within the next few years. In 2020 will the Corsa, therefore, be joined by a new generation of crossoveren Mocha X and varebilen Vivaro, both of which will be available as fully electric cars.

Opel turns in the same token, fixed that one already next year will begin to build a version of the Grandland X model with pluginhybrid technology. Here, the petrol engine will be supplemented by an electric motor, which need to be recharged in the outlet, and the constellation will supposedly provide up to 300 horsepower.

Even though the Corsa will be the first electric car after the launch of Opel’s new strategy, it’s not the first electric car in the Opel model portfolio. In 2017 launched manufacturer model Ampera-E, who promised both long range and reasonable price.

the Model is however since been hit with such production and delivery problems, that the sales in Norway has been stopped for a year while the car has not yet reached Denmark.

The new Opel Corsa will, therefore, be legitimately the other ‘popular’ electric car from the German manufacturer when it is scheduled to be launched next year.
