Researchers from the american research institute, NOAA Ocean Exploration and Research was something of a surprise on an expedition to the bottom of the sea off Puerto Rico in november.

Here discovered the divers namely a ægkapsel with a hajfoster at 250 meters depth. The discovery caused great joy, and was caught on video.

Oh wow! I have never seen anything like this before, it sounds on the video as the NOAA Ocean Exploration and Research has published.

– It is extremely rare to see one of the here ægkapsler with the shark inside, it sounds.

According to the NOAA Ocean Exploration and Research provides ægkapslen an unborn spotted dogfish of the species. According to Rune Kristiansen, who is marinbiolog at Kattegatcenteret, there are over 160 different kinds of rødhajer.

– It is rare that one gets the opportunity to discover such some thing. It is special, because it’s really good recordings made on very deep water.

Rune Kristiansen notes that ægkapslen is transparent, and it is according to the marinbiologen not usually.

– This is completely transparent, so you can see the fetus. It is atypical. Usually they are brownish in color in order to camouflage itself. After the female lays the eggs, they are left to fend for themselves for up to a year before they hatch.

Neither the scientists on the NOAA Ocean Exploration and Research or marinbiolog Rune Kristiansen can you say how long that will go before the egg hatch, but Rune Kristiansen considers that hajfosteret is about half way.

– Rødhajen is typical in the egg for eight to ten months. This is maybe 4-5 months pregnant.
