World No.2 Jannik Sinner, forced to withdraw from the Masters 1000 in Rome due to a right hip injury, returned to training eight days before the start of Roland-Garros (May 26-June 9) , according to photos published Saturday evening and this Sunday on his social networks. Sinner appears in his photos with racket in hand on a clay court in Monaco, where he lives.

The Italian did not write a message but accompanied his photos with four emoticons, including two representing an hourglass and the French flag, undoubtedly in reference to his time trial to be ready for Roland-Garros.

When he formalized his withdrawal from the Rome tournament which followed his abandonment in Madrid just before his quarter-final, Sinner, 22, explained that he was going to have to take a break of at least a week, before to be able to resume training. He did not want to go into the details of his injury, but warned that he would only play at Roland Garros “if he (was) 100%”.

Sinner dominated the first part of the season, with a record of 28 wins and two losses. He won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, then won in Rotterdam and Miami, to bring his record to thirteen titles.

Sinner was eliminated in the 2nd round of the Paris Grand Slam in 2023, but reached the quarter-finals in 2020 before losing to Rafael Nadal.

At the end of Roland-Garros, he can seize the first place in the world occupied by Novak Djokovic if the Serbian, lacking in confidence and results, does not reach the final.
