The Spanish player Jenni Hermoso, forcibly kissed by the president of the federation during La Roja’s victory at the World Cup on Sunday, relies on her union to ensure her defense, which has called for “exemplary measures” against by Luis Rubiales. “My union Futpro, in coordination with my agency TMJ, are responsible for defending my interests and are the interlocutors (to be reached) on the subject”, announced the N.10 in a press release published on social networks by Futpro.
Since the start of the affair which saw Luis Rubiales forcibly kiss Jenni Hermoso on the mouth, the player had spoken only twice: the first time during a live broadcast on Instagram where she spontaneously said smiling “It doesn’t bother me anymore, huh!” about that kiss. A little later, in statements sent to the press by the RFEF, she explained that it was “a totally spontaneous mutual gesture because of the immense joy that victory in the World Cup brings”.
But since the controversy continues to swell, reacting to the Spanish Prime Minister, the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) or the famous American footballer Megan Rapinoe. Condemning “firmly the conduct that attacks the dignity of women”, Futpro demanded in this same press release from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) “exemplary measures” in order to “watch over the rights of our players” by “applying the necessary protocols.
Futpro explains “to work so that acts like these do not go unpunished, are subject to sanctions and that adequate measures are adopted to protect players from gestures which seem unacceptable to us”. The union launches an “appeal” to the Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) to act “in the face of sexual harassment or abuse, machismo and sexism”.
For his part, Luis Rubiales, who had initially swept aside these criticisms, apologized in a video where he believes that “there is nothing else to do” in the face of the extent of the “agitation” that his gesture provoked. The RFEF will hold an extraordinary general meeting on Friday devoted to the subject.
