The captain of the French women’s team Wendie Renard carried out medical check-ups on Monday in Sydney after feeling pain in her calf, AFP learned from sources close to the Blues the day after the draw against Jamaica (0-0) at the World Cup.

Already greatly diminished by injuries, the tricolor selection faces a new blow with this concern about its emblematic defender.

According to a source close to the Blues, Wendie Renard felt pain in her calf, and had a control MRI on Monday at midday (local time), after the morning training session. The results of the examination were not yet known. At the start of this session open to the press, Renard (33) briefly appeared on the Blue training lawn, before returning indoors.

Five days before the shock of group F against Brazil, Saturday (12:00 p.m.) in Brisbane, the French face several physical glitches in defense. Defender Selma Bacha, injured in an ankle for ten days, nevertheless returned to collective training on Monday.
