The Denver Nuggets celebrated the first NBA championship title in their history with tens of thousands of fans massed in the streets of the Colorado metropolis on Thursday. Three days after their coronation against Miami (4-1), Nikola Jokic and his teammates marched through the streets of Denver as is the tradition for any team crowned in the NBA.

But the Nuggets had this time not taken place with the famous Larry O’Brien trophy in double-decker buses, but on the roof of fire engines, and for some of them in the basket of the big ladder. They were greeted by jubilant supporters, very happy to celebrate with their heroes the first title of their team which has been playing in the NBA for 47 years.

“Never could I have imagined seeing so many people,” assured strong winger Aaron Gordon. “It’s crazy, look at this crowd as far as the eye can see, added his teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the only player in the squad to have won a title before Monday. It’s amazing to be part of the history of this team and this city.

Nuggets coach Michael Malone thanked fans for their support throughout the season and promised them more days of celebration. “It’s not over,” he said as most observers think his team is armed to rule the NBA next season and beyond. There were no incidents to report so far. On Monday, after the Nuggets’ coronation, nine people were shot and injured and a suspect was arrested after gunfire near the hall where the team beat Miami.
