Ikea is moving: the Swedish furniture giant will open its largest Parisian store at Place d’Italie (13th arrondissement) on September 12, it announced on Monday, January 22. As planned, this new opening will be accompanied by the closure of the current store located near Place de la Madeleine (8th arrondissement), four days earlier, on September 8.
The latter will therefore be replaced by this new store installed in the Italy 2 shopping center, purchased in April 2023 by the real estate company of Ikea’s parent company, Ingka Centers. Its surface area (5,800m2) will be slightly larger than that of the current Madeleine store, but it will above all be accompanied by 2,600m2 of “warehouses dedicated to product storage”, greatly facilitating logistics for the brand. More than 1000 additional references will be offered there compared to Ikea Madeleine, and the restaurant will offer 100 seats.
The Ikea City Madeleine was the first site opened by the Swedish company in inner Paris in 2019. It was also the first of a new condensed concept in the city, complementary to the stores usually located in outlying commercial areas.
At the same time, the other Parisian Ikea located on rue de Rivoli (1st arrondissement), opposite La Samaritaine, was redeveloped at the start of the year, to “facilitate the customer journey” and offer small furniture in this store, up to here rather focused on accessories and decoration.
