Philadelphia is one of the most important cities in the United States of America’s history for independence from the British. It is the birthplace of the country as we know it. It was here that the founding fathers drafted and created the Declaration of Independence, and where the Liberty Bell still stands to this day.

There is so much to do and see. Between the old town and the new, modern additions, there is something for everyone. If you are planning a trip here soon, remember to use these tips to help you get the most out of your experience:

· Plan Ahead

When it comes to any big city trip, particularly in historic cities like Philadelphia, planning ahead is the way to go. There are so many amazing things to do in Philadelphia, and you’ll want to mix and match those items with fun additions like shopping and great dining. By planning ahead, you can prioritize your own list and create an itinerary that interests you.

For example, if you’re more into art than history, you may want to visit Philadelphia Museum of Art instead of the Liberty Bell Center. If the weather is particularly good when you plan on going, you may want to spend time at Fairmount Park instead of indoors at Eastern State Penitentiary. Have a backup plan for outdoor activities in the event of adverse weather, but other than that, focus on what you’re interested in to build the perfect itinerary.

· Know You’ll Be Walking

Like many old cities, Philadelphia is incredibly walkable. Not only will you want to walk around to really soak in the many neighborhoods and find your own secret corners, but you’ll also have to. Even if you take public transportation from place to place, you will still be on your feet most of the day, so wearing supportive footwear is an absolute must.

· Save with PHLASH

The PLASH bus goes every 15 minutes from 10 am to 6 pm and goes through all the main sites in Philadelphia. If you plan on hopping on and off, buy the all-day pass. This pass is just $5, so you’ll start saving the third time you go on it. Kids under four travel free, so you can save on your trip.

· Blue Signs are Important

There are so many important historic sites in Philadelphia, and not all of them will be on a tour or even on your radar. The good news is that you don’t need to delve deep into the history books to know the history of where you travel. Instead, keep an eye out for blue signs. These blue signs have important information that lets you know about the site you’ve accidentally stumbled upon.

· Know How to Save

There are a few great ways to see and do it all in Philly for less, starting with the museums. Many museums have free days available, which is great news for those who want to learn but would otherwise have to pick and choose which museums they can visit. These museums do tend to be extra busy on free days, however,
