According to provisional figures from the German Weather Service, this year’s summer is the sunniest since records began over 70 years ago. “According to the measurements so far and including the forecast up to the end of the month, we will have 817 hours of sunshine this summer,” said Andreas Friedrich from the DWD in Offenbach. The previous record was set in the summer of 2003 with a nationwide 793.3 hours. “So it’s the sunniest summer since sunshine duration has been recorded, since 1951.”
The German Weather Service (DWD) is presenting its preliminary balance sheet for the summer of 2022 this Tuesday. It will be interesting to see whether the summer of 2022 will be one of the three warmest in Germany since temperature and precipitation began to be recorded around 140 years ago. Meteorological autumn begins on September 1st.
