Because They learned each other to know, in full war, 75 years later they are still husband and wife. Jules De Leener (95) and Anna Pieraerts (93) celebrated on Saturday morning their 75th wedding anniversary in the nursing home Keymolen. “Our secret? Not too much to argue,” laughs Jules.
An alabaster huwelijksjubileum in Flanders is a rare phenomenon. In the early ‘40’s, during the Second world War, taught Jules and Anna are each other know in Ruisbroek. The lovebirds lived in the same street. Through his sister dared Jules to take his chance. “At that time it was not so simple,” says Jules. “We were young, so all of our dates we did in secret. Usually we were in our garden to each other kushandjes. When I saw her suddenly kissed, it was instant love. Anna has not wavered: I was apparently the man of her life.”
