The austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem defeated the surprising favourite Roger Federer in the final in Indian Wells.

Ottendeseedede Thiem won in three sets with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 on the night of Monday Danish time.

Swiss Federer had otherwise heading for his sixth triumph in the tournament, which each year is held in Indian Wells, California, UNITED states.

But the fjerdeseedede Federer had to see himself beaten at the finish line of the 25-year-old austrian, who thus wins his first Masters tournament.

– I do not think that I have the right to congratulate you, you have 88 more titles than I have, said Thiem to Federer, when he received his trophy after the match. It writes the AFP news agency.

Indian Wells ranks as the Masters tournament just below the four grand slamturneringer.

Thiem is the first austrian to win a Masters title since Thomas Muster in Miami in 1997.

It is the second year in a row that Federer loses the finals of Indian Wells. Last year he had to bow to increasing the argentinian Juan Martin del Potro.

– It has been a good week for me, even if it is not succeeded to me, said Federer after the final, according to AFP.

For women ended up the finals in Indian Wells, even more surprising.

Here defeated the 18-year-old canadian Bianca Andreescu favorite Angelique Kerber.

The canadian teen won in three sets with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 over ottendeseedede Kerber.

Andreescu is the first wild card player to ever, win the finals in Indian Wells. She is also the second youngest winner in tournament history.
