The Brazilian government, the United Nations has regarded the military coup of 1964, to defend. It was not a coup, says the government. That message the BBC.
The telegram was addressed to the special rapporteur of the UN for the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees to prevent repetition, Fabian Salvioli. Salvioli had criticized the plans of the extreme right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro to the 55th anniversary of the bloody coup against the democratically elected, leftist president João Goulart, on 31 march 1964.
“There was no coup”, sounds in the telegram. The 21 years of military rule that followed, were necessary to the communist threat, and “the preservation of national institutions to guarantee, in the context of the Cold War.”
