Modern cars are packed with all sorts of safety and assistance systems, which shall help and assist the drivers while driving, and if the accident would be out.
But several cars ensure not to warn the driver if there is a malfunction in the security and assistentsystemerne, so they do not work, a recent study shows that FDM has made. Thus the risk for drivers to drive around with a false sense of security, says the FDM in a press release.
the Systems include, among other things like automatic emergency brake, vognbaneassistent and speed limiter fitted. The systems have been instrumental to improve road safety in new cars, but drivers run the risk anyway to drive around with a false sense of security, shows the FDMs test of 14 different models.
In the test was vehicle security systems dazzled to see how they reacted in the case of a defect. In the vast majority of cases, gave the cars no, or only very late an error.
– of course It is worrying. The new assistance systems are essential for the safety of both soft and hard road users. Therefore, it is not good enough, that you, as a motorist, be not warned, if the system does not work. It is absolutely essential that one can rely on them, says the Lone Otto, head of the FDMs technical advice, in the press release.

the FDM stresses that the safety and assistentsystemerne keeps getting better and better, but the study also shows that car manufacturers in instruktionsbøgerne takes a large number of reservations for, when a system such as the vehicle’s emergency brake does not work. For example, it may be on a wet road, if the car in front is dirty, fodgængeren is bad for pedestrians, or the vehicle in front driving erratically.
Assistentsystemerne works in principle in the same way in the different brands, but there can still be a big difference on them, like for every car manufacturer is named something unique. Together with the european automobile clubs working FDM in order to get just the changed.
– In conjunction with the other motoring clubs, we are working to influence legislation, so assistentsystemerne gives an error message with the same, if they don’t work. In addition, it creates confusion, vehicle manufacturers call these systems somewhat differently. Also we are working on to change, so you get the common names and description of assistentsystemerne. It will make it easier for consumers to understand the safety and assistance systems in their new car, says the Lone Otto.
FDM still recommend that you buy a car with the new safety and assistance systems, as they generally provide a better road safety. FDM carried out its investigation over several weeks in the autumn of 2019. Here was the 14 cars partly tested on FDM Sjællandsringen partly on an 18 km long route with both urban, rural and highway driving.
