The City Council of Churriana de la Vega joined the campaign

September is the month for awareness about childhood cancer. It is the leading cause of death in children aged 1-14 years. It is also the second most common cause of death in childhood, adolescence, after traffic accidents. The Municipal Culture Center will display a gold ribbon throughout September as a sign of support for children with childhood cancer. This symbol symbolizes the hope of young cancer patients and will increase their visibility and social impact. The lighting at the entrance of this municipal building will be golden, as well as the square adjacent.

This action aims to reach out to all children who are in this difficult position. This year’s central motto is “Illusion spreads!”. We ask everyone to be aware of the current COVID-19 situation in the country. Cancer and its treatments can cause a weakening of the immune system. They are considered high-risk patients and have a greater risk of developing infection or disease.

Every three minutes, a child in the world is diagnosed with cancer. There are 16 types of childhood cancer that affect children, and approximately 250,000 of them are diagnosed. These are different from the adult forms. Researchers have concluded that the number of children diagnosed with childhood cancer is not well-reported in many countries. Childhood cancer is the leading cause for death in our country among children and adolescents aged between 1-14 years.

Many types of childhood cancer can be curable. However, access to treatment and medicines is often limited in developing countries. As a result, only 2 out of 10 children will survive. While 8/10 children in developed countries will survive their childhood cancers after five years, research has shown that half of those who survived will suffer side effects. A quarter of those who survived will also have to deal with the consequences of treatment.

The Spanish Federation of Parents of Children with Cancer (Non-Profit and Public Utility) was established in 1990. It coordinates activities of 21 Associations, each of which were founded and presided over by parents who have been affected by childhood cancer. Children with Cancer is a group of minors who have been diagnosed with cancer. It represents them before society and institutions to help them transfer their problems and find solutions.

Children with Cancer provides a variety of services to families affected by cancer. It supports over 18,000 families with information, advice, psychological and sociological support, shelter flats, financial support and research to help families integrate into school.
